Debra Nelson Gas fired mid-range lanterns and garden totems
503-628-1562 | nelson@chehalemmountainpottery.com | website

My work is inspired by my love of outdoor environments
and is both functional and decorative. The lanterns light the garden
paths with a warm inviting glow and the totems are colorful, fanciful
garden decorations to be enjoyed year round.

I work in the ancient art of mosaic with a contemporary interpretation. I strive to make art and architectural installations that bring color, texture and excitement wherever the work is hung or installed.

Graphic designer for 23 years, I've turned my passion to mosaics. I create fine art wall panels, custom architectural installations and murals. A member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists, I have been juried into the annual international exhibition for five consecutive years. I teach occasionally and am available for custom commissions, both private and public.

My work in glass fusing reflects my love of nature and the beauty to be seen everywhere in our daily travels. Creating impressionistic landscapes and floral images in glass are challenges I repeatedly enjoy.

My career in housing and interest in automobiles influences much of my artwork. My goal is to provide art that appeals to men as well as to those who make the ultimate decisions on matters of decor.

I have had work in the 2007 juried show at Windermere/Baldwin Properties in Hillsboro, on display in the Hillsboro Tuesday Artwalk in 2007 and 2008, at the 2007 Celebrate Hillsboro Fair and the 2008 Forest Grove Concours d'Elegance. I show on a continuing basis at the Sequoia Gallery in Hillsboro where I serve as their gallery staffing coordinator.

Clay prefers to relax in elegant, organic shapes but I challenge it to be rigidly straight. As though the piece was cobbled together by a boilermaker. If all goes well, my work will conjure a smile, incite a chuckle, or perhaps pour a cup of tea.
